Definitions and Data

Rifle Builder PRO addresses the challenges that gunsmiths face due to a lack of available information. These data sets are stored in such a way that machinists (CNC or Manual) can use the units system they are most comfortable with —  no conversions necessary! The diagram below illustrates some of these data sets and definitions, including individual Gunsmith user preferences:

These data sets enable a variety of workflows and data preservation. Here are a few examples of what can be done using Rifle Builder PRO:

• Select Action + Cartridge, and start a “custom one-off” machining job (no math required)
• Select “338 Lapua Magnum” from cartridges (CIP defines in millimeters), review dimensions, and perform machining in inches
• Select a Savage Short Action while setting up job, and machine in millimeters (Possible exception: threading on manual machines)
• Save “Pre-Drill Shop Short Distance = 0.0200” in User Preferences. Rifle Builder PRO automatically applies this to next machining job.

Machining Software

Rifle Builder PRO provides both manual machining flows you can use at your lathe, and also CNC machining capabilities (in later releases). For manual machinists, jobs are guided step-by-step with each task-specific view showing ONLY the relevant information and visuals for the current task at hand. The result: Elevated craftsmanship, less time spent on each job, less scrap and waste, and greater process enjoyment.

Community and Events

Rifle Builder PRO forges a rich community for professional rifle gunsmiths and machinists. Regularly-scheduled live events (webinars) will include industry updates, problem solving, customer feedback, feature requests, general Q&A, and more! This type of discussion forum provides a place to interact with other professional gunsmiths, learn, and exchange ideas apart from keyboard warriors and other distractions.

Training and Support

Never run a lathe before? Never chambered a rifle before? No problem! Making With Metal Training Academy —a sister company — will supply all of the training you need to get started and develop your craft. We also have help videos to guide users through using Rifle Builder PRO. Rifle Builder PRO and affiliates will provide complete end-to-end training for newcomers and seasoned industry professionals.

Over the past seven years, Ultimate Reloader has been working on optimized rifle barrel work processes and related tooling. An important part of Rifle Builder PRO is to make these tools and tooling setups available to members of the industry who want to use them with or without Rifle Builder PRO software.
